A New Beginning

Hello!

Welcome to my blog! This is my second attempt at blogging, and the first time I intend for people to read it outside of my immediate inner circle. I will experiment with blogging again, and perhaps down the road I can attempt my hands at "Vlogging" (Video Blogs) on YouTube.

So who the fuck is this kid anyway?

Well to get started my name is Michael, but most people call me Mikey. I am twenty two years old and was born and raised in Miami, Florida USA. My parents are of Cuban descent, my mother and father left the country with their families in 1970 and 1960 respectively. My mother is a school teacher, while my father works in the area of real estate. They are divorced, and I am the only child from their marriage. I do however have 5 half siblings from both my parents previous marriages.

Both of my parents were previously married and divorced when they met each other. My father had four children with his previous wife. I have two brothers named Eugene and Joseph, and two sisters named Kristin and Lauren. On my mothers side I have another sister, Monica. Although all my siblings are only half related to me, I consider them to be my full blooded siblings. Out of all of them though, the closest one I have connected with is Monica. I grew up with her in my house, and lived with her until she moved out when I was an early teenager.

Life for me in Miami had been up until I moved away for College interesting to say the least. Unlike many American Towns, the predominant language is not English. For those who believe in America and support making English the Official language, it disheartens them to say the least. At one point I would get really annoyed with the amount of Spanish around me, especially since I didn't begin to learn spanish in earnest until I was 12. The immigrant population is huge there, and keeps getting bigger as time progresses. There are more people born in foreign countries than domestically in Miami-Dade County. I actually am a minority for being born within the county.

As alluded to earlier, I moved out of Miami when I was 20 years old. I had completed my first two years of College at Florida International University, and left to finish at the University of Florida. Leaving Miami was a process, and dominated most of my thoughts for the majority of 2010. Growing up, I felt rather sheltered from the world and wanted to experience something different. That feeling on top of wanting a more rigorous education lead me to apply and ultimately getting admitted into the Microbiology Major at the University.

After moving out of the city, I have grown as a individual. When you go away to college, there is more learning that goes on outside the classroom. Living on your own is essential to having in my opinion the complete college experience. Learning to take care of yourself, manage your own finances, and make important decisions. One of the biggest things that I have had to finally come to grips with on my own is my sexuality. DISCLAIMER: I AM GAY! Yeah I just said it, just to put it out there.

That was a rather brief introduction to the person I am, and over the course of my blog you will understand who I am and what exactly makes me tick. This blog is ultimately about the new journey I am about to take. In less than a month from now I am potentially graduating from the University of Florida, and starting on a journey into adulthood.

The challenges I face are numerous, but I am no different from the many people who are graduating these days. I have accumulated some debt studying, I have had my share of panic attacks while studying, had my moments of vulnerability, and my moments of success. As I finally leave the formal education system, I begin a new life.

I have several goals I would like to accomplish this year, but I am going to let you see me progress. My first post may not have any photos, but I assure you later posts will have photos, video, and assorted media.

This is a start of something new...
